We work collaboratively as a group deciding issues of concern and how we will then use our combined craft skills to the best effect for our aims.

Current project

Our current project is ‘Water’, which we intend to spend some time on as there are so many related concerns. We are creating a fabric ‘river’ to be used as a focus for worship, but alongside that engaging in a range of activities which we hope others will join.

Initially we are making coasters to send to our MPs to encourage them to support the

Clean Water Now campaign and ensure the Water Reform Bill delivers.

We also plan to send them to water companies praising the seven that are doing well

and asking the others why they can’t provide clean rivers too.

Past projects

For Remembrance Sunday in 2025 we produced four large collage panels, entitled

From Devastation to Hope that depict a war zone.

Each picture shows the dove of peace ever present as a sign of hope at all times.

Our aim is to promote the stopping of wars and urge for peace at a time when war seems to be filling the news' headlines. We wish to encourage those with power and authority to change things for the good of all.

We produced postcards of the four images which have been sent to MPs and organisations involved in armaments as well as for use as prayer cards.

As well as being used in services within the Circuit, the collages featured in an international art publication on the theme of War and Peace. They also appeared in Methodist News and on the website of the Methodist Church in Britain, were on view at a pan-European Peace Conference, both presbyterial and representative synods in the Beds, Essex and Herts District and at the Wesley Day weekend of celebrations at Wesley’s Chapel, where they were photographed with the President of the Conference 2025 - 2026, Rev Richard Andrew.

The collages can still be borrowed – they each measure 32”x40”, and prayers for peace

are available from the Prayer and Bible Study Resources tile of the Worship page.

Organisations which can provide further resources on the theme of peace,

or who may be glad of your support are: The Peace Pledge Union, Peace Direct, Quakers, Peacemakers, The Fellowship of Reconciliation and the Methodist Peace Fellowship.

We facilitated the creation of the Tent of Hope installation, made up of woven hoops depicting creation and climate concerns, and produced an accompanying

order of service for use in worship.

This has been used by a number of churches within the Circuit and the installation was part of the outdoor service on Dunstable Downs in July 2025.

We made tote bags during Lent 2025 for Leighton Linslade Helpers Community Fridge, Luton Foodbank and Dunstable Foodbank who are struggling since plastic carriers became less available,

as well as it being a more sustainable alternative. They will continue to need bags so if you wish to make some the instructions are available here.

We also wrote to our MPs to ask what they are doing about food poverty as we would prefer to live in a country where food banks are not necessary because people have sufficient income to buy food for themselves and their families.

We made bags to gift to MPs to share our concern about the cost of living crisis

We made green hearts to send to our MPs to register our concern about climate change

We made model houses and tents to create a model town which featured as part of the open air service in 2023

We contributed a panel to the Stitches for Survival project to create a giant 'scarf' that wrapped around an area of Glasgow during COP26 in 2021
